Are you a foodie? This post is especially for you
The Regional Government of Catalonia commissioned a report with the aim of analysing the strategic options of the gourmet sector. The study showed that in the region, in year 2012 there were 500 companies in the gourmet sector, 6 out of 10 dedicated to food and 4 out of 10 dedicated to drinks. Gourmet is a food produce of very high quality, sold in specialised shops, with a very attractive packaging and normally produced following artisan traditions.
Spain is the 5th Western country in the list of consumption of gourmet products, after USA, France, UK and Germany; and sales of gourmet products amount to 4.500 million Euros. It is more common nowadays to consume gourmet products at home, since people spend less money eating out, and the tendency is to cook more at home.
If you like having your friends over for dinner parties, there are a few details you should not forget for your dinner to be a real success. Alejandra Ansón, General Manager of Elite Gourmet, in charge of certifying the quality of Spanish gourmet food and drinks suggests:
– Organic products should be top of your list, not only for food, but also for wine. Real bread, properly fermented and slowly baked is a must.
– Vegetables are no longer an accompaniment to the main, but become the centre piece of menus.
– Using different salts and olive oils to match your dishes is more common than ever.
– Traditional is trendy. Old stew and soup recipes are back in the menus of many fashionable restaurants.
– Gastronomy is linked to health. What we eat has a direct impact on how we feel. Eating healthy is not incompatible with eating tasty. There is no time for unhealthy diets.
