SPANISH GOURMET PRODUCTS ARE HIGHLY VALUED OUTSIDE SPAIN

7 out of 10 exporters think of Spanish food and drinks as high quality products, according to the study “Analysis and Assessment of Food Exports 2012’, drafted by the Spanish Federation of Food and Drink Industries (FIAB). Another interesting fact that this study reveals is that Spanish gourmet products are more highly valued abroad (25%) than in Spain (16%). Most of American gourmet shops currently sell Spanish products, and there is an increasing demand for Spanish gourmet products in the Middle East.

One of the reasons for this success is, no doubt, the high quality of our products. The Secretary General for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Ms Isabel García Tejerina, recently stated in a visit to the US that, ‘Spain produces healthy and high quality foods, that are grown and manufactured following traditional methods and are respectful with the environment. It is therefore no coincidence that Spain is currently the country in the European Union with the largest area dedicated to organic production’.

The demand for healthy and organic products is higher now than ever before. Spain enjoys the advantage of having products that are traditionally grown and form the basis of our Mediterranean Diet.

As an example of the high quality achieved by Spanish cuisine, we can take a look at the many awards obtained by Spanish restaurants. This year, once more, the best restaurant in the world, as voted by ‘The World’s 50 Best Restaurants’, is Celler de Can Roca, in the north east of the country.
